Maude B. May

Maude B. May, age 90, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, in Community Hospice House.

Born August 25, 1924, in Buffalo, New York, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Foley) Betts. Maude graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Buffalo, and went to work at the Buffalo Savings Bank. She was wed to Robert J. May on January 22, 1945, at the Kearney Army Airfield, Kearney, Nebraska. The couple resided in Buffalo and Williamsville, New York, Slidell, Louisiana and Farmington Hills, Michigan, before re-locating to New Philadelphia seventeen years ago.

Maude was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a faithful member of St. Joseph Church, Dover. She enjoyed travel, and Ireland, her ancestral homeland, was one of her favorite destinations.

Survivors include her loving husband of very nearly seventy years, Robert J. May; her son, Robert J. (fiance, Cathy Snyder) May Jr. of Beavercreek; her daughter, Dr. Maureen A. (husband, Pat Robie) May of New Philadelphia; her three grandchildren, Caitlin, Ryan and Tim Robie; and her sister, Jeanne B. Conlin of St. Charles, Missouri.

In addition to her parents, Maude was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Francis Conlin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 22, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Dover, with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery.
