Maxine L. Rufener

Maxine L. Rufener, 65, of Dover died Friday, April 23, 2004 at her home following a three-year battle with Lou Gehrig�(TM)s Disease (ALS).

She was employed at Dr. Richard Brown�(TM)s Chiropractic office in New Philadelphia for 13 years and worked at Schwartz Kline's in the Monroe Mall for many years. Maxine was also well known in the area for being a representative for Nikken Magnetic Health Care Products.

Born January 21, 1939 in Gilmer County, West Virginia she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Reatha Tomblin Murphy.

She was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover. Maxine enjoyed sewing, watching sporting events on television and spending time with her family, especially playing cards with her grandchildren. Maxine�(TM)s life with Lou Gehrig�(TM)s Disease was a ministry of grace to everyone who visited, even within the last week of her life her caretaker was led to the Lord by her ministry.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Paul Rufener, with whom she would have celebrated 47 years of marriage on June 30, 2004.

She is also survived by two sons, Randy (Nancy) Rufener of Dover and Ken (Lynn) Rufener of Mattoon, Illinois; daughter, Patti (Art) Devaul of Dover; seven brothers, Vic (Pat) Murphy of Magnolia, Don (Lou) Murphy of North Industry, Gerald (Cheryl) Murphy of Dover, Joe (Elaine) Murphy of Sherrodsville, Doyle (Darlene) Murphy of Mineral City, Stephen (Karen) Murphy of Twinsburg and Darrell (Linda) Murphy of Kihei, Hawaii; three sisters, Loretta (Bob) Henderson of New Philadelphia, Phyllis (Walter) Van Horn of New Philadelphia and Twila (Richard) Brown of New Philadelphia.

Nine grandchildren, Ryan, Sean, Jay, Nicole, Katie, Cory, Tiffany, Jayme and Elizabeth; brother in law, Carl (Sandie) Rufener of Dover; three sisters in law, Irene (James) Parker of New Philadelphia, Doris (Jay) Flaherty of Massillon and Louise (John) Schott of Navarre.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was also preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Murphy; and two sisters, Mona Coventry and Luverna Polen.

A celebration of Maxine�(TM)s life will be held on Tuesday April 27, 2004 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. David Wing officiating. Interment will be at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the burial a reception will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
