Maxine M. Varner passed from our midst this 8th day of February, 2003 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimers disease.
A 28 year employee of Dover Public Schools, Maxine retired in 1984 after serving as secretary to Superintendents, D.C. Lemmon, Paul Hayes, Emmett Riley, & William Kinneer. She was a member of the Dover High School�(TM)s graduating class of 1938.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Iola Melick and her husband of 35 years, Carroll W. Varner. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Dover over which her father presided as an elder in it�(TM)s inception.
She is survived by her sister in law, Florine I. Varner of Ashland, Ohio and her two sons, Raymond “Rollie” Varner of Gresham, Oregon and Gerald R. Varner of Delaware, Ohio.
At her death, she was a resident of the Arbors Nursing Home in Delaware, Ohio where she had resided since May of 1998.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 2:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park.
