Maxine V. Griesen

Maxine V. Griesen, 91, of Strasburg and formerly of Navarre, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011.

Born on October 22, 1920 near Bolivar, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Elizabeth L. Butler Grove. On October 29, 1938 she married William G. Griesen, who preceded her in death on January 19, 1997. She is also preceded in death by her daughter; Linda Griesen; five brothers; three sisters; and a step-grandchild.

Maxine was a homemaker, but was formerly employed at Republic Steel.

She attended Bonawitz School. Maxine cherished the time she spent with her family. She loved sports and enjoyed making cookies and candy for her family and friends during the holidays. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Bolivar.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter; Barbara Bachie of New Philadelphia; two sons, William (wife, Phyllis) Griesen of Stone Creek, Ronald Griesen of Strasburg; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three adopted great grandsons; ten step-great grandchildren; and she was expecting her 11th step-great grandchild soon. She is also survived by many close extended family members.

A celebration of Maxine's life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Darrell C. Filler officiating. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park. A meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 5-8 pm.
