Melba Ruth Eichel, 76, of Dover, Ohio died Saturday, October 21, 2000 in her home following a brief illness.
She retired in 1992, as nursing instructor at Kent State University (Tusc. Branch) Nursing Program where she taught for 22 years. She was also previously a Registered Nurse at Union Hospital for many years.
Born October 11, 1924 in Wausa, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Josephine Lindgren Anderson.
Melba was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover where she was involved in numerous committees and church groups including the Alter Guild, Leader of the grief support group, and Bible study group.She was also involved in the lay ministry. She was the 1996 recipient of the Founders Day Award. She was also an avid bridge player and member of numerous bridge groups. She was a former member of the Union Hospital Twigs, AAUW, and Tuscarawas Order of Eastern Star. She received her BSN degree from the University of Cincinnati School of Nursing in 1946. She enjoyed gardening and her family and loved her grandchildren.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband Robert G. (Bob) Eichel who died September 9, 1992. She was also preceded by her grandson, Jason Eichel; Three sisters, Calista “Kit” Stager, Gwendolyn Kunzman, and Veronica Hanssen and a brother, Calvert Anderson.
She is survived by one son and two daughters Glenn R. (Deborah) Eichel of Eaton, Ohio Cheryl (Jeff) Black of Dallas, Texas and Laurie (Bill) Hess of Columbus
Six grandchildren Erika Eichel Presley (Ernie), Kirsten, Ian, and Trevor Black and Natalie and Nathan Hess.
One Sister, Yvonne Fischer of Dover and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2000 at 3:00 PM in the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover with Rev. Brian Nunnally officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
