Melvin R. Littleton, 81, of Strasburg, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, in Hennis Care Centre, Dover.
Born Jun. 8, 1921, in Richland Twp., Belmont Co., he was a son of the late Theodore Mason and Bessie Pearl Ault Littleton. Melvin moved at a young age with his family to Tuscarawas Co., and attended school in Dover. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and also served with the U.S. Merchant Marines. Melvin retired from the Diebold Safe & Lock Co., Canton, in 1983, following twenty years of service.
He attended Strasburg United Methodist Church. Melvin was a former member of the StrasburgVolunteer Fire Dept. He was a member of the American Legion post of Strasburg, and the Loyal Order of Moose and the Eagles Aerie, both of Dover. Melvin was a sportsman, and loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed playing golf and painting. . Additionally, he liked to work with wood and the restoration of automobiles. Melvin was a handyman who could fix almost anything.
Survivors include his wife, Louise A. Rinehart Littleton, whom he married Aug. 25, 1945; a daughter, Suzanne (Thomas) Parker of Bolivar; a son, Tom (Jan) Littleton of Los Alamos, NM; four grandchildren, Stacey (fiancé, Chris Fallot) Parker of Canton, Clay Parker of Columbus, Seth (Becky) Littleton of Los Alamos, and Shane (Jonna) Littleton of Arvada, CO; three great-grandchildren, Hanna, Amy and Mason Littleton; a half-sister, Hilda Clemens of Streetsboro; three brothers, Vernon (Elena) Littleton and Edgar (Betty) Littleton, both of Dover, and Pete (Renata) Littleton of Newcomerstown; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Strasburg, with Rev. Steven Court officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg, where military rites will be presented by the Dover post of the V.F.W. There will be a meal in the Strasburg United Methodist Church following the committal. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, 5 �" 8 p.m., in the funeral home.
