Merle A. Himes

Merle A. Himes, 88, of Strasburg died Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at the Hennis Care Centre following an extended illness. He retired in 1979 from the Timken Co. in Canton after 35 years of service. Born May 2, 1911 in Strasburg he was a son of the late Arley and Edith Klingler Himes. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Strasburg and the Cypress Masonic Lodge also in Strasburg. Merle is survived by his wife Dolores O. Renicker Himes with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on October 19, 1999. He is also survived by four sons: Herman and Kathleen Himes of Jones, Oklahoma Charles and Carol Himes of Strasburg Kenneth Himes of Dundee John and Cathy Himes of Bolivar Four daughters: Ruth Ann and Richard Wright of Canton. Donna and Edward Kowalski of Seattle, Washington Evelyn and Robert Hahn of Columbus Barbara and Bill Steinke of Beach City One brother: Alvin and Rachel Himes of Strasburg Two sisters: Erma Eash of Strasburg Blanche Boughman of Dover 35 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren He was also preceded in death by a son: Robert Himes Great granddaughter: Kristin Steinke Three brothers: Russell, Otis and Carl Himes. One sister: Verda Climes Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2000 at 11:00 am in the First Lutheran Church at Strasburg with Pastor Fred Grosse officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, where the Cypress Masonic Lodge will hold Masonic services at 6:45 pm. Friends may also call one hour prior to the funeral on Monday at the church.
