Michael A. Meechan, 52, of Dover, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, in Aultman Hospital, Canton. Michael had fought a courageous battle with cancer. He fought the disease with a smile, never complaining.
Born Jul. 22, 1951, in Dover, he was a son of John Meechan, Sr. of Stone Creek, and the late Isabel Lahmers Meechan. Michael was a 1969 graduate of Dover High School, and was employed by Minteq International, Dover.
He was a member of Day Star Holiness Chapel, Dover. Michael enjoyed playing the guitar, and was a singer-songwriter of gospel music. Every month, he performed with other gospel musicians for the residents and staff of Country Club Retirement Center, Dover. Michael also liked to fish Lake Erie, the lakes of the Muskingum Watershed and local rivers and streams.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife Sally Grinder Meechan, whom he wed May 14, 1980, in Pickens, SC; two daughters, Ella (Ron) Bovetsky and Erin Meechan, both of Dover; a son, Michael T. (Julie) Meechan of Pittsburgh, PA; a step-daughter, Kimberly (James) Morgan of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Brianna Gribble, Kylar and Rylan Bovetsky, Ashlinn Meechan and Katlyn Morgan; five brothers, James Meechan, of Dover, Eugene (Sue) Meechan of Raymond, David (Diana) Meechan of Connotton, Tim (Karen) Meechan of New Philadelphia, and William Meechan of Canada.
Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Meechan.
A funeral service celebrating Michael�(TM)s life will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover, with Rev. Norm Stover officiating. There will be a reception immediately after the service in the Day Star Holiness Chapel, 3573 Mount Pleasant Rd. NW, Dover. Following cremation, burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover.
