Michael Allen "Mike" Denny Sr., known affectionately as "Sarge" to his friends and loved ones, passed away on May 4, 2024, at Ohio's Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. He was born on December 15, 1961, to Ronald Denny and the late Sandra Allen Denny in East Chicago, Indiana.
Mike led a remarkable life that touched the hearts of many. His journey was marked by his dedication to serving his country with honor in the United States Army. Stationed in Korea and Germany during his military service, Sarge exemplified courage, discipline, and a deep sense of duty. Aside from his military commitment, Mike valued education and graduated from Calumet High School in Indiana. He retired from Kraton Chemical (formerly Union Camp) in Dover after 36 years.
In his leisure time, Sarge was an avid sports fan with a particular passion for MMA, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. His enthusiasm for sports brought joy to those around him, and he shared many memorable moments cheering for his favorite teams.
Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In addition to his father, Ronald Denny, he leaves behind his children; Michael (Jenevive) Denny Jr. of Louisville, Jessica (Jacob) Cannon of Tuscarawas, Matthew Snyder, Stephanie Snyder, Courtney (Dave) Metzger; his long-time companion and best friend, Charlotte Mahaffey of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, Pandora Denny, Jacoby Cannon, Kingsley Denny, Josie Cannon, Jonah Cannon, Makayla Tolotti, Oscar Snyder, Wyatte Watson, and Kadyn Blackwell; his step-mother, Florence Zalesky; four sisters, Lora (Rich) Melia, Kim Quillen, Lisa Kay, Angela (David) DeLong; and his close friends, Bryan and Kelly Bowe.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Lennox Denny.
A memorial gathering will take place at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover, will take place on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 4-7 pm.
