Michael J. Durisen, age 81, of Wainwright, and a long-time resident of Brooklyn, New York, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016, in The Inn at Northwood Village, Dover.
Born March 11, 1935, in Brooklyn, he was a son of the late Michael and Selma Walters Durisen, Michael attended high school in Brooklyn and then served honorably with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he was employed by the Brooklyn Union Gas Company, from which he retired after 35 years of service. Michael married Jeanette F. Stransky on June 22, 1957. The couple reared three sons and shared nearly 44 years of marriage prior to Jeanette's passing on February 5, 2001.
Michael and Jeanette moved to Tuscarawas County in 1998. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was a member of the Tusco Rifle Club.
Michael will be sadly missed by his family, which includes his sons, Mark (Brenda) Durisen of Stone Creek, and Gary (Becky) Durisen of Dix, Illinois; his grandchildren, Chad and Corey Lumley, Kimberly Trujillo, and Nick and Brendon Durisen; his brother, Richard (Anna) Durisen of Bloomington, Indiana; his sister, Marilyn McCullough of Toronto, Ohio; and his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and his wife, Jeanette, Michael was preceded in death by his son, Michael Durisen.
Honoring Michael's wishes, there will be no visitation or ceremony. He will be cremated, and his cremated remains buried with his wife and son in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
