Mildred E. "Millie" Seikel

October 12, 1925 — May 15, 2016

Mildred E. "Millie" Seikel, age 90, of Dover, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 15, 2016, in her home.

Millie was born October 12, 1925, in New Philadelphia, to the late Homer E. and Christena C. (Thomas) Miller. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1943, and was employed as a cashier in several local grocery stores. While working at the Buehler's store in Dover, she caught the eye of her future husband, Robert W. Seikel. The couple was later formally introduced by Robert's sister, Frances, in Dover's Spanish Ballroom. Robert and Millie were married on May 26, 1952, in St. Joseph's Church in Dover. A city girl, Millie soon adapted to life on the Seikel dairy farm, where they reared a son and four daughters. The couple shared thirty-six years of marriage prior to Robert's passing in 1988.

In retirement, Millie spent much of her time visiting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed old movies, listening to polka music on the radio and taking day trips with her family. Millie was an enthusiastic card-player and thoroughly enjoyed board games. She was seldom without her pencil and word search books. During warm-weather months, she liked to attend auctions as well as concerts at Tuscora Park.

Survivors include her children, Chris (Robert) Kurtz of North Canton, Elaine Warther and Dennis Seikel, both of Dover, Linda (Jim) Jordan of Alliance, and Jane (Jerry) Wortman of New Philadelphia; her ten grandchildren, Karla (Stephen) Fowler, Robert W. (Jenn) and Benjamin Kurtz, Karen, Karl (Rosemary), Kurt (Missy) and Krista Warther, Sara, Laura and Alex Wortman; her great-granddaughters, with whom she was recently blessed, Lydia Fowler and Laura Warther.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Robert, Millie was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Richmond, and her son-in-law, Dale Warther.

Millie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A loving and gentle person, she was kind-hearted, generous, and always put others first. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 20, at 2 p.m., in St. Joseph Church, with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, Dover.
