Longtime New Philadelphia resident, Mildred M. "Millie" Czatt, 81, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 in Union Hospital.
She was born October 31, 1928 at St. Clairsville, the daughter of the late Melvin W. Vanfossen and Pearl M. (Shockley) Smitley.
By trade, Millie was a bookkeeper. She spent her working years taking care of the books for a variety of companies including: the former Pioneer Pontiac dealership, RM Henning Hydraulics, Harcatus, and Ferris Chevrolet. Her most important work was done though after she had stepped away from bookkeeping. For 25 years, she served as the loving primary caregiver to her husband Dale G. Czatt. The couple was married 58 years before his death on September 11, 2006.
Millie was an active member of the Schoenbrunn Moravian Church at New Philadelphia, where she served as Elder, and was a member of the Women's Fellowship. She and Dale enjoyed square dancing. Together they had belonged to several square dancing clubs, and had traveled across the United States for a number of square dancing events.
She also enjoyed reading and working on puzzles of all kinds.
Her three children: Valerie (Brett) Long of Dennison, Beth (Bill) Weidner of Louisville, and Steven (Louise) Czatt of Columbus, will remember her as a great cook, and for being a loving mother. She took pride in her three grandchildren who survive, Tony Czatt of Columbus, and Evan & Keenan Long of Dennison. Additionally, two brothers, Melvin (Shirley) Vanfossen of Dennison, and Robert (Paula) Smitley of New Philadelphia; and two sisters, Harriet (Bud) Fete of New Philadelphia and Linda (Randy) Metzger of Bolivar survive.
Along with her parents and husband, a brother, Jacob Smitley, and an infant brother and sister preceded Millie in death.
A funeral service celebrating Millie's life will be held Monday, at 10:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover with Pastor Sue Koenig officiating. Interment will follow in the Dover Burial Park.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
