Minnie M. Straub, 99, of Dover, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Country Club Retirement Center in Dover. Born June 8, 1909 in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late John and Clara Fuchs Kasserman.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover.
She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her favorite subject in school was geography. A world globe and atlas sit in her living room from which she traced vacations of family, and the daily news. From her life on the farm, she developed a love for the natural, especially flowers and animals. She had a keen mind. Crossword puzzles were a challenge. As in her early years, quilting later became a joy shared with new friends through her involvement in the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
Her husband, Louis E. Straub who died in 1963, preceded Minnie in death.
She is survived by: two sons, Lloyd (Doris) Straub of Strasburg, and Delmar (Jean) Straub of Dover; daughter-in-law, Martha Straub of Dover; a brother Earl Kasserman of Cadiz; seven grandchildren, Terry (Vicky) Straub and Valerie Straub of Strasburg, Sue (Gale) Kimble, Beth Cadle, Rick (Cathy) Straub, and Greg (Dalene) Straub of Dover, and Dr. Timothy (Ann) Straub of Oregon; along with eleven great grandchildren, Katie (Jon) Scholles of Strasburg, Scott Kimble, John Cadle, Dan Cadle, Bryan Straub, Melissa Straub, Justin Straub, and Kristin Straub of Dover, Heidi Straub, Daniel Straub, and Christopher Straub of Oregon.
In addition to her parents and husband, a son, Glenn E. Straub, and grandson, Jeff Straub, preceded Minnie in death.
Rev. Bruce McLaughlin of First United Methodist Church, Dover will officiate a service that celebrates Minnie's life on Thursday, July 10, at 2:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. The family, through the ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Dover, will host a reception for family and friends.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from noon until 2:00 p.m.
