Miriam Glee Bayer, 91, formerly of Strasburg died early Friday morning, Jan. 3, 2014 in Hennis Care Centre at Dover following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Harvey and Ethel (Stuck) Freshour of Justus, Ohio, Glee was born March 29, 1922 in Justus. She attended Justus Elementary and Brewster High and moved to Strasburg in 1946. Glee earned her license as an LPN and was employed at the former Massillon State Hospital (Massillon Psychiatric Hospital). She retired in 1987 after 33 years of service. A passionate and loving woman by nature, she loved her children and grandchildren. Glee excelled at sewing, making crafts, crocheting and redbirds. She loved watching the Cleveland Indians on television and she enjoyed flowers, especially tulips. She also loved to talk on the Citizen's Band radio and her handle was "Grandma Bayer."
Glee is survived by five children; Barbara Limbacher, Rodney and Linda Bayer of Strasburg, Ronald Bayer, Dennis and Marguerite Bayer all of Dover, and Kenneth and Dayna Bayer of New Philadelphia. Glee also has eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a great great grandson. Completing her family are her sisters Jeanne Gasser of Dover and Marilyn (Tootie) Cook of Navarre along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Glee was preceded in death by four grandchildren, JR Bayer, Craig, Jami and Jill Limbacher; a brother, Glenn W. Freshour, a son in law, Ben Limbacher and her former husband Maurice W. Bayer.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 from 5-7pm at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. Pastor Gary Friend will lead a service celebrating Glee's life on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 1pm at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg and a reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
