Nancy C. Smith

Nancy C. Smith, 86, of Dover died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023 in the Community Hospice Truman House following a period of declining health. 

She retired from the Kroger Store in New Philadelphia and had previously been the manager at the former Quik Shop in Dover. 

Born September 23, 1937 in New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Adeline (Beitzel) Haas.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, L. Dale Smith who died Nov. 30, 2017, two sons, Dale “Rocky” Smith and Jeff Smith; her mother and father- in-law, Fred and Emma Smith and her grandparents, Ed & Elizabeth Haas and Joe & Emma Beitzel. 

Nancy was a longtime member of the First Moravian Church where she volunteered with the church soup and sandwich luncheons and the sugar cake sales.  Her sons described her as a strong, proud and a caring mother and grandmother.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling and spent 10 years as snowbirds in St. Cloud, Florida.  She looked forward to playing cards with her family and friends.  She never missed making birthday cakes for her family.

She will be sadly missed by her family including her three sons, Scott (Lori) Smith, Eric (Terri) Smith, and Gary (Ann) Smith all of Dover; nine grandchildren, Jaclyn (Rick) Erickson, Michael (Erica) McDonnell, Beau (Rosey) Smith, Casey (Joe) Emery, Travis (Erika) Smith, Sam Smith, Jesse Smith, Dani (companion Matt Sweet) Smith, and Tony (Jessica) Smith; 10 great grandchildren, Bryn, Beckam, Delaney, Adelyne, Callie, Aubrie, Holton, Hensley, Austin and Kayli

Pastor John Wallace with officiate services for Nancy on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023 beginning at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with burial in the Dover Burial Park.  A reception will follow in the Dover First Moravian Church.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7pm and Thursday from 10-11am at the funeral home.  Those who may wish to express a fond memory of Nancy or sign the online guestbook can visit the funeral home website at www.tolandherzig.com
