Nancy Yvonne Sanders, 76, of Gnadenhutten died unexpectedly in her home Thursday, March 3, 2011.
Nancy retired in 2002 from the Indian Valley Schools where she was a school bus driver for 28 years. She enjoyed the many friendships she made with hundreds of children over those years.
Born December 12, 1934 in Uhrichsville, she was the daughter of the late Nelson Royce and Nelda Ann (Major) Long.
She was a longtime member of the Gnaden United Methodist Church and was active in the Rebekah Circle and Women's Group. She also enjoyed her involvement in the Penobscot Homemakers in New Philadelphia and was passionate making lap robes for nursing homes. Nancy was a 1952 graduate of Uhrichsville High School. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and baking and especially loved playing dominoes with her great friends, Mel and Dee Cox.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, John William Sanders who died Feb. 22, 1985, three grandchildren Tessa Jo Robinson, Kristen Jayne, and Matthew Steven Becknell and an infant brother, Greg Nelson Long.
Nancy will be sadly missed by her three daughters and their families Patty Robinson of Strasburg and her children, Stacy (Josh) Bitikofer and kids, Tessa Lynn and Trenton Joshua;and Kasey Robinson of Columbia, Md. and son, Jaymis Steven; Cindy Jones of Bolivar and Kathy (Doug) Becknell of Bolivar and daughter, Ashley Becknell; three sisters, Sandy (Gary) Struchen of Gnaden, Kay (Larry) Laisure of Port Washington, and Sue Mason of Newcomerstown and Nancy's eight granddogs Blue, Poe, Shelley, Sable, Kayli, Cole, Abby, and Swiper.
Nancy's life will be celebrated Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Gregg Kelly officiating. Cremation will follow services and she will be laid to rest privately beside her husband at Greenmont Union Cemetery in Freeport. A reception will follow the service at the Gnaden United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4pm at the funeral home.
