Neal R. Ryan, age 86, of Dover, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, in Oak Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Baltic.
Born September 13, 1929, at Pedro, Ohio, he was a son of the late John and Geneva Evans Ryan. Neal moved with his family at a young age to Dover, and graduated from Dover High School in 1947. He went on to serve honorably with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Neal was wed to the former M. Jean McFarland on December 5, 1951, and the couple reared three children and shared sixty-one years of marriage prior to Jean's passing on March 7, 2013.
Neal was employed by the Clow Corporation at Parral for thirty years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Dover post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as the Disabled American Veterans, serving as district commander from 1986 to 1988.
Survivors include his sons, Michael (Maggie) Ryan of Florida, and John (Debbie) Ryan of Dover; his daughter, Linda (Ray) Lassonde of New Hampshire; his six grandchildren, Chad (Charissa), Kari (Scott), Jessica (Jim), Jennifer (Steven), Angela (Chris) and Kayleigh; his seven great-grandchildren (and an eighth expected in June); his brother, Kenneth (Cynthia) Ryan of Dover; his sister, Faye Gladman of Dover; and his sister-in-law, Margaret Ryan, also of Dover; and his many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, and his beloved wife, Jean, Neal was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Ryan.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Friday, April 1, 6 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 2, at 1:30 p.m., in New Philadelphia's Evergreen Burial Park.
