Niles G. Urfer Sr., 94, of New Philadelphia died Saturday, April 19, 2008 in the Country Club Retirement Center at Dover.
He was retired from the New Philadelphia Schools as a Custodian and he had also worked at Marsh Chalkboard.
He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Lions Club, IOOF Lodge and the Moose Club all in New Philadelphia.
Born July 20, 1913 in Dover he was a son of the late Edward and Clara Garver Urfer. Niles was also preceded in death by his first wife, Melva Denzer Urfer; his second wife Treva Strawn Urfer; grandson, David Urfer; great grandson, Christopher Winrod; four sisters, Madelion, June, Ann and Dalene; brother, Sherwood.
Niles is survived by his three children, Nancy (Michael) Green of Massillon, Niles (Cheryl) Urfer Jr. of Florida, and Linda (James) Hupp of New Philadelphia; brother, Daniel Urfer of Dover; two step children; 13 grandchildren, Robert, Lori, Lisa, Thomas, Julia, Christine, Heather, Niles III, Wendy, Amanda, Jason, Holly and Matthew; 34 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Tim Steiner officiating. Interment will be in the East Ave. Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 pm.
