Norma L. May

Norma L. May, age 87, a long-time resident of E. Eleventh St. in Dover, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in Park Village Health Care Center.

Born Feb. 13, 1925, in Tuscarawas, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Elnora Schott Rausch. Norma attended Dover schools, and married Harold R. May, Sr. on Jan. 25, 1942. She was a homemaker and also worked as a caregiver for the elderly and sick. Norma was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover. She was an excellent cook and loved being with her grandchildren. In her spare time, Norma enjoyed working with ceramics, crocheting and taking pictures of her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Vanaski; three sons, Thomas James "Jim" (Sue Ann) May and William "Bill" May, both of New Philadelphia, and Robert Allen May of Lancaster; two daughters-in-law, Toni and Evelyn May, both of Dover; ten grandchildren, Art Davidson, Ann LaRose, Dale and Paul May, Vicky Maurer, Marisa Butcher, Holly Smith, Sandi Rector, Valerie Weaver and Eden Vizzo; and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on Feb. 28, 1979; a daughter, Sandra Davidson; two sons, Charles and Harold May Jr.; a grandson, Troy Scoville; and a sister, June Jans.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, Jan. 24, 10 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11, officiated by Pastor Dotty Hartzell. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. After the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
