Olga Huffman, 94, of Strasburg, passed away peacefully in her home after a 6-week illness.
She was born April 10, 1906 in Courtelary, Switzerland to Frieda & Friedrich Oppliger.
She immigrated to the US with her mother and sisters in October 1919 and settled in the Tuscarawas Valley.
She worked at the Dover Sad Iron before marrying James Ivan Huffman, who died February 12, 1976, in 1928, and moved into the home in which she still resided at the time of her death.
Olga had three children:
Joan & her husband Bill Park, both who preceded her in death
Vance I. (Janalyn) Huffman and Gale P. (Carol) Huffman of Strasburg
A sister, Gerta (Clarence) Trotter of Massillon survives, while sister, Lena Chumney preceded her in death.
Grandchildren include:
Ann Park, Fred Park, Mike Park, Amy Froman, Julia Rafoth, John Huffman, Fran Gerber, Elaine Stollar, Michelle Huffman, Steve Huffman, Kate Sibila and John Sibila
Great grandchildren:
Michael, Tyler, Bryant & Katie Park, Abby, Ryan & Nicholas Froman, Ellie, Janie, Rachel and Jack Rafoth, Tina Loibl, Sarah & Rachael Stollar, Maxie, Rita & Annie Huffman. One grandson, Jim Park, is deceased, as well as daughter-in-law Carole L. Huffman, and a brother Walter.
She also leaves her special friend & cousin Virginia Waltz and her devoted cats. She was called “Kitty Grandma” by all her great-grandchildren.
Olga was an avid gardener, hem stitcher and seamstress for her family and also tailored clothes for the Garver Bros. Store. She was an active member of the Strasburg St. John United Church of Christ and the Strasburg Homemakers. In her later years she was known to drive all the “old” ladies who could no longer drive to the beauty shop, grocery and church services.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, at 11:00am in the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg with Rev. Gerald G. Schuessler officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Strasburg on Thursday from 6-9pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either Hospice of Tuscarawas County or to the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg.
