Olive L. Callen, 89, of Barberton, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Monday, Apr. 4, 2011.
Born Sept. 10, 1921, in West Sunbury, PA, she was a daughter of the late A. Roy and Grace Emery Gibson. Olive graduated high school in North Washington, PA, and, on Jun. 19, 1942, married Rev. Lloyd Trudell Callen in West Sunbury. Olive was a loving homemaker who supported her husband in his pastoral duties. She was also a talented seamstress, working for both clothing shops and individuals from her home. Some of Olive�(TM)s favorite past-times were gardening, bird-watching and working jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, Akron.
Survivors include four daughters, Edna (Tom) McNellis of Barberton, Beatrice Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK, Darlene (John) Jones of Cape Coral, FL, and Ruth (Jon) Kovacs of Bossier City, LA; six sons, Harv (Martha) Callen of Cuyahoga Falls, John Callen of Cookeville, TN, Louis (Diane) Callen of Massillon, William (Caroline) Callen of Midwest City, OK, Larry Callen of Dover, and Daniel Callen of New Philadelphia; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn (Vivian) Gibson of Butler, PA; a sister-in-law, Rose Gibson of Grove City, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Olive was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; daughter, Dorothy Boofer; grandson, Bruce Callen; and by two sisters and three brothers.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Apr. 8 at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor David Burden officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
