Opal D. Stringer, 85, of Dover went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the Park Village Health Care Center.
Opal had retired from JC Penney in 1981 after 25 years of service.
Born September 23, 1921 in Hohenwald, Tennessee she was a daughter of the late James and Rose Hooks Burns. Opal was also preceded in death by her loving husband George A. Stringer who died on March 17, 1979.
She was a member of Dover Alliance Church where she was involved in the ladies prayer group and taught Sunday school for many years. She had also conducted a Bible study group in Franklin Terrace at Strasburg. But the activity she enjoyed the most was taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Opal is survived by her two daughters, Judy (Bob) Luthy of Dover and Ann (Fred) White of New Philadelphia; sister, Mildred (Cliff) Gray of New Philadelphia; eight grandchildren, Vicki (Doug) Tom, Jane (Bruce) Clay, Jeff (Kirsten) Smitley, Steve (Karen) White, Shelley Lindsay, Teresa (Rick) Carter, Kim (Brian) Fox and Susan Rummes; 19 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 28, 2007 at 11:00 in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Tim Steiner officiating. Interment will be at the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
