Otis Oliver Cunningham, born September 5, 1950, in Dover, Ohio, passed away on October 29, 2024, at the Hennis Care Center in Dover. He was the son of the late Carl and Donna (Oppy) Cunningham.
A graduate of Claymont High School, Otis went on to build a career in various industries, showcasing his remarkable versatility. He served at Cusher-Horizon Coal in Strasburg, Spring Brothers Sand & Gravel in Midvale, and Dover Furniture, where he left a lasting impression on those who knew him as a reliable and devoted professional.
Otis found joy not only in his work but also in his passions. He was a longstanding member of Roxford Church in Dennison, where his faith guided and sustained him throughout his life. He was very involved with the church missions and spent countless hours making thousands of wooden crosses for the parish. Additionally, he proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in Midvale, embodying the spirit of community service and commitment to helping others.
In his leisure time, Otis was an accomplished woodworker, pouring his creativity and craftsmanship into projects that brought joy to his family and friends. Whether it was creating functional pieces or artistic works, his talent and attention to detail were evident in all that he undertook.
On June 20, 1971, he married Gisella “Jane” Cunningham, who preceded him in death on June 23, 2024. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, John Cunningham.
Otis is survived by his brother; Karl (Patsy) Cunningham of Dennison; his sister, Bonnie (Bill) Wasicek of Victoria, Texas; his nieces and nephews; along with his special friends, Kenny and Beth Kohler and their family.
A funeral service celebrating Otis’ life will be held at the Roxford Church in Dennison on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 12:00 pm with Brother Jim Manbeck officiating. Friends are invited to call at the church on Monday from 11:00 am until noon. A meal will be served in the church social hall following the service. A private burial will take place at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover are assisting his family with arrangements.
