Overton W. Brown

Overton W. Brown, age 96, of Dover, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013.

Born Mar. 21, 1916, in Triangle, NY, he was a son of the late Theodore C. and Ruth Manes Brown. Overton graduated from high school in New York, and went on to serve honorably in the Pacific Theatre of Operations with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Second World War. Following his military service, he went on to attend and graduate from the Moody Bible Institute. Overton went to work for the Mission Aviation Fellowship in California, where he met Selma E. Bauman who happened to be of Orrville, OH, and the two were married on Oct. 10, 1952 in Inglewood. The Browns were missionaries with M.A.F., serving twenty years in southern Mexico and Honduras. They later worked with the Bible Club Movement in the elementary schools of Tuscarawas County, and became members of the Community Baptist Church in Dover.

In addition to his loving wife, Selma, Overton is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Kenneth) Bocnuk of Leesburg, VA; a grandson, Nikolai; and one sister, Analinda Felt.

Besides his parents, Overton was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorian Dunlavey and Betty Winters; and a brother, Thomas Brown.

Burial will be private in the cemetery of the Apostolic Christian Church, Rittman. A public memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. in Community Baptist Church, Dover, with Pastor Andy McClung officiating.
