Patrick E. Majors

Patrick E. "Pat" Majors, 88, of Bolivar, died Tuesday, Apr. 19, 2011, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born, Nov. 24, 1922, in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Edward and Jean Carter Majors. Pat moved with his family at a young age to Ohio, and graduated from Osnaburg Township High School. He went on to serve honorably with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during the Second World War. Following his service time, he was employed for nearly forty years by the Canton Drop Forge Co. as a machinist. Pat also farmed much of his life, and was the manager of his mother's farm.

He faithfully attended the Dover Bible Church for over thirty years, and was a Honorary Life Member of the National Rifle Association. Pat was a man of many interests. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He tied hundreds of beautiful fishing flies over the years. He grew both apple and peach trees on his acreage, and was especially proud of his homemade "natural cider." Pat also enjoyed music, playing the guitar and trying his hand on the banjo. Foremost, he was a devoted family man.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-two years, Sibyl Johnstone Thiessen Majors; three daughters, Sandra (Dennis) Adelman-Hull of Norwalk, Judith Melody of Carrollton, and Susan (Kenneth) Eberly Grove of Bolivar; a son Patrick E. Majors Jr. of Carrollton; three step-children, Amy Hudson of Wooster, Jill (Steven) Newell of Sunbury, and Doug (Heidi) Thiessen of Kidron; sixteen grandchildren, Jeff D. (Wendy), Mark S., and Daniel S. Adelman, Elizabeth A. (Chris) Chappell, Austin, Bart (Kelly) and Mary Melody, Christopher M. (Laura), Jason L. and Joshua A. (Sally) Eberly, Jonathan, Andrew (Wendy), Jeremy and Jenny Hudson, Jerri Lyn (Ben) Morris, and Kelly Newell; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn Majors of North Canton, and Karen (Donald) Ewing of Brewster; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Majors of Brewster, and Helen Majors of Beach City; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna M. Stark Majors on Oct. 14, 1984; and by three sisters and three brothers.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Apr. 23, at 1 p.m., in the Dover Bible Church with Pastor Ed Scaglione officiating. Immediately following the service, the Dover post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will perform military rites, and then there will be a luncheon in the church. Burial will be later in Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg.
