Patty P. Troyer, 84, of Strasburg, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011.
Born Oct. 7, 1927, in Marion Co., West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Sarah Mable Floyd Wenger. Patty attended school in West Virginia, and moved with her family to Tuscarawas Co. in the early 1940's. As a young lady, she was employed as a telephone operator in Sugarcreek. Patty married Vernon D. Troyer on Oct. 10, 1947, in Greenup, Kentucky. The couple made their home in Tuscarawas Co. and reared six children.
When her children were grown, Patty worked as a prep cook and waitress for local restaurants, and was later employed by Dover High Performance Plastics, from which she retired. She was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church, and the church's United Methodist Women. Patty was fond of reading, and she crocheted and sewed, making afghans, pillowcases and towels, which she often gave away to family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon; five sons, Vernon (Deborah), Randy (Jody), Gary (Cindy) and Rick Troyer, all of Strasburg, and Toby (Edith) Troyer of New Philadelphia; thirteen grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Sara Belle (Wayne) Kamban of New Philadelphia, Mary (John) Brink of West Lafayette, Lovie (Bill) Jones of Chicago, Illinois, Carol (Manases) Troyer of Louisville and Sheila (Doug) McPeek of Midvale; a brother, Chet (Sandy) Wenger of Carrollton; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Patty was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Lynn Troyer; four sisters and two brothers.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m., in the Strasburg United Methodist Church, with Pastor Lynda K. Masters officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the church's social hall. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2 5 p.m., and on Monday, 10:30 11 a.m. at the church.
