Paul D. Tharp, 63, of Dover died on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born October 25, 1946, in Dennison, he was the son of the late Donald E. Tharp and Wanda L. McCarty Stone. He graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1964. Soon after graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served our country from January 13, 1966 until he was honorably discharged on September 22, 1972.
He married the love of his life, Shirley Becker on July 13, 1974. Together they had two children.
Paul retired from Fleming Foods at Massillon, where he worked for many years. He was a member of the Dover Alliance Church and the Pine Hill Hunting Club. He thrived by spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, or gardening. He also enjoyed playing cards with his close friends, which he was fortunate enough to have continued until just a few weeks ago.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Shirley, his two sons; Shawn (wife, Erika) Tharp of Dover, and Nathan (wife, Mindy) Tharp of Newark, Ohio; two grandchildren, Ali and Brennan; and his brother, Joe A. (wife, Glenda) Tharp of Woodsboro, Texas.
Along with his parents, Paul is also preceded in death by his nephew; Sam Sayre; and his grandmother, Josie Tharp.
In honoring Paul�s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. A memorial service has been planned at the Dover Alliance Church on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 11:00 am with Pastor Rick Rose officiating. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 4-7 pm. Those unable to attend, or who would like to share a fond memory of Paul, may do so by visiting the �Obituaries� link on the funeral home�s website.
