Paul E. Beitzel, 82, of New Philadelphia passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Union Hospital.

Born in New Philadelphia on October 22, 1934, Paul was the son of the late Oliver and Erma (Gerber) Beitzel. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marlene Butler and Claudia Gerber; and his son in law, Rick Domer.

He was a 1952 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He retired after 28 years of service from US Ceramics in East Sparta. He was also the owner of the former Mister Donut in Dover and New Philadelphia.

On June 12, 1984, he married Rebecca “Becky” Masten.

Paul was an active member of the First Christian Church in New Philadelphia where he was a Deacon, and a member of the Christian Builders Sunday School Class and also taught Sunday School for many years. He earned his 3rd degree black belt in karate and taught at Karam’s Martial Arts for several years. He spent 8 years in the Naval Reserve. His favorite pastime was traveling with his wife, Becky,reading, and keeping his yard well manicured.

In addition to Becky, he will be sadly missed by his five daughters; Cindi (Rich) Robinson of Dover, Susan Jo (Bob) Engeldinger of Dover, Kim Domer of New Philadelphia, Tami (Jeff) Urban of New Philadelphia, and Shawna Chumney of New Philadelphia, three brothers, Kennard (Barb) Beitzel of New Philadelphia, Fred Beitzel of New Philadelphia, and John (Donna) Beitzel of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; Ian and Owen Robinson, Shauna (Clint) Fender, Michael (Mae) Beitzel, Matthew (Amy) Beitzel, Stacy and Jay Urban, Brock and Blake Chumney; along with 4 great grandchildren and one on the way.

A celebration of Paul’s life will take place at the First Christian Church in New Philadelphia on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 11:00am with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Immediately following the service, a meal will be served in the church social hall. Friends can call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 2pm - 4pm and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
