Paul L. Brown, Jr., 85, a Dover resident who formerly lived in Vincennes, Indiana, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 following a brief period of illness.
He was born June 29, 1922 at East St. Louis, IL, the son of the late Paul L. & Agnes McGloughlin Brown, Sr.
For 25 years Paul worked as a chemist for the Missouri & Pacific Railroad. Upon his retirement, he went on to own and operate the former Rallway Furniture Store in Vincennes for another 15 years.
While in Indiana, he was a member of the Old Cathedral Church at Vincennes and was an active volunteer with St. Vincent DePaul.
Paul was proud of our country and honorably served in the Army during World War II. He was stationed, for a time, in France, and received medals from the American Theater, AEME Theater and the Bronze Star among other honors.
In 1999 he moved to Dover with his wife, the late Mary Rall Brown, where the couple attended St. Joseph Church, and Paul had volunteered at East Elementary School. Mary died on June 30, 2007. The couple had shared 56 years of marriage just two months prior to her death.
Surviving family members include: a daughter, Therese (Rick) Rinehart of Dover; son, Thomas Brown of Dover; two sisters, Edna O' Sullivan of North Carolina and Veronica Robertson of Fairview Hts., IL; and four grandchildren, Erin Gorsich, Katie Rinehart, and Shaun, Michael & James Rinehart.
Fr. William Arnold will officiate a funeral mass that celebrates Paul's life on Monday, June 2, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dover. Interment will follow in Dover's Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Monday from 10-10:45 a.m.
