Paul R. Mason, 89, of 717 Evergreen Drive, Dover, Ohio died Saturday, September 27, 2003 in Union Hospital following an extended illness.
Paul retired in 1978. as an Engineer Technician for the Ohio Dept. of Transportation (ODOT). He had previously been a coal mine owner and operator from 1937-50. He had also owned and operated the former Stag Bar in New Philadelphia and the Mason Vault Company in Dover.
Born July 18, 1914 in Dover, the son of the late Robert and Emma Ellwood Mason.
Paul was a life member of the St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover where he was member of the Adult Bible Class. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge at Dover and former member of the New Philadelphia Moose and Elks Lodges and the Dover Eagles Lodge where he was formerly a trustee. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and mushroom hunting.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Kuhns Mason who died February 23, 1998.
He is survived by two sons Anthony “Bud” (Clara) Mason of Dover and Jonathan (Bonnie) Mason of Atwood Lake; one daughter, June (David) Krause of Hartville, Ohio; Nine grandchildren Christina (Eric) Steffy, Rebecca Mason, Suzanne Mason, Jeffery (Cathy) Mason, Deborah Mason, Ryan (Alicia) Mason, Jonathan Krause, Andrew Krause and Elaine Krause; two great grandchildren William “Sevy” Mason and Genevieve Steffy. Three sisters Margaret Hamilton of Dover, Betty Schupbach of Phoenix, Az., and Mary Alice Stucky of Berkley, Michigan; one brother, Robert Mason of Dover and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Benjamin Mason and three brothers, Ellwood, Walter, and James Mason.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 11 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Steven Daniels officiating. A reception will follow in the St. John�(TM)s UCC Fellowship Center. Interment will be in Jerusalem Church Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 6-9 pm where Masonic services will be held at 5:45 pm.
