Pauline M. (Huff) Mason, 99, of Dover and a former New Philadelphia resident died Friday, June 29, 2007 in the Hennis Care Centre following a brief illness. She also spent many winters in Ft. Myers and Hollywood Florida.
Pauline and her late husband, Herbert owned and operated Mason�(TM)s IGA Foodliners in Dover and Wellsville. The Dover store which was located on Union Ave. opened in 1955. Mason�(TM)s IGA was Tuscarawas County�(TM)s first supermarket and the Mason family operated the first IGA in the state of Ohio. In 1956, they were recognized internationally by receiving the IGA Grocer of the Year and were presented the honor at the Waldorf in New York City. They sold the Dover Mason�(TM)s Foodliner in 1967 and Wellsville in 2005.
Born April 3, 1908 in Barnesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late George and Maggie (Packer) Huff.
Pauline was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Dover where she taught Sunday school for many years and was involved in the Loyalty Bible Class and the Clara Sullivan Circle. She was a 1926 graduate of Freeport High School and attended the Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women. She loved spending time with her family and at the time of her passing, she was reading her Bible for the sixth time.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Herbert who died October 19, 1985. She was also preceded by five sisters and three brothers, Dan Huff, Mary Milliken, Harmon Huff, Flora Davis, Bert Huff, Edith Rider, Georgia Murdock and Laura Jackson.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Robert) Arnold of New Philadelphia and her son, Danny (Jane) Mason of Dover; four grandchildren, Donald Larry (Donna) Mason of Lisbon, Barbie (Jack) Stahl and Larry (Brenda) Wallick both of Dover and Brenda Fox and her mate, Dan LeGlise of Dennison; three stepchildren, Jessica (Dick) Fisher and Maureen (R.L.) Wenger both of New Philadelphia and Wade Walter of Houston, Texas; She is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Pauline�(TM)s life will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 11am in the Grace Lutheran Church in Dover with Pastor Marlin Drake, Dr. William Haggis and Pastor Jack Stahl officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Dover. A reception will follow at the Dover Masonic Temple. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8pm and Tuesday from 10-11am at the church.
