Peter S. Welsch

Peter S. "Pete" Welsch, 87, of Strasburg, died Thursday, August 07, 2008 in Country Club Retirement Center.

Born May 6, 1921 in Strasburg, Ohio he was the son of the late Ben and Bertha (Miller) Welsch. He graduated from Strasburg High School in 1940.

He served our country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He later married his wife, Betty Suntheimer Welsch, on November 3, 1948. Betty preceded him in death on March 5, 1982.

Pete retired from Heckett Engineering in Canton in 1983 after over 20 years of service. He was a member of the Strasburg American Legion and the National Riffle Association. He had his pilot license and enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and spending time outdoors. Pete began golfing when he was 62 years old and golfed every day until his health began to fail.

He is survived by his two sons; Ted (wife, Terri) Welsch of Canton, Michael (wife, Sherry) Holingbaugh of Westmoreland, Tennessee; his two daughters, Pam (husband, Doug) Bercaw of Strasburg, Karen (husband, Jerry) Limbacher of Dallas, Texas; his three sisters, Joann Schilling of New Mexico, Ida May Collin of Canton, Margaret (husband, Bob) Noble of New Mexico and his nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his three brothers; Richard Welsch, Donald Welsch, and Herbert Welsch.

A celebration of Pete's life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:00 am with Pastor Rich Van Arsdalen, from the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia, officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg, where the Strasburg American Legion will conduct military graveside services. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover, Ohio 44622. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday, August 10, 2008 from 1:30-3:30 pm.
