Phillip S. "Pitt" Pittman, 59, of Dover, Ohio died Monday, August 4, 2008 following injuries received in an auto accident near Dover.

Phill was a Project Superintendent for Regency Construction in Lakewood. He was responsible for overseeing the building of many schools including the new Strasburg Franklin High School.

Born June 15, 1949 in Massillon, he was the son of the late Paul Pittman and Juanita Pittman Graef. He was also preceded by his "pop" Dick Graef, two brothers, Jerry and Richard Pittman, and his father in law, Robert Nicholson.
An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Phill enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and fishing at the family's cottage on Middle Bass Island. He was passionate about his classic cars and motorcycles.

Phill was a 1968 graduate of Dover High School. Immediately following graduation, he served his country in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation medal and other medals related to that era. He was a sergeant in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade where he served as a "Red Catcher." He was a member of the Dover VFW, Bolivar American Legion, and the Bolivar Sportsman Club.

"Pitt" is survived by his wife, Amy Nicholson Pittman with whom he would have celebrated 23 years of marriage this Sept. 7; three sisters, Eleanor (Jerry) Cox of Georgia, Nancy Cox of Florida and Mary Kay Horton of Canton. He is also survived by his mother in law, Frances Nicholson of New Philadelphia; sister in law, Nancy (Dan) Swinderman of New Phila and brother in law, Steve (Katy) Nicholson of Sherrodsville and his loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Phill's life will be held Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with his friend, Pastor Greg Clay officiating. The service will be followed by military honors at the funeral home conducted by the Dover VFW. Friends will be received Wednesday (today) at the funeral home from 4-8pm.
