Phyllis A. Dunfee, 76, of Dover and a longtime resident of Jewett, died Monday, October 26, 2009, in Union Hospital, following a long illness.
Born, May 30, 1933, in Carrollton, she was a daughter of the late George and Margaret Hilder Strohmeyer. Phyllis graduated from Carrollton High School, and was a loving homemaker. She had been employed by the Scio Pottery Co. as a designer, and by Harrison Hills Joint Vocational School.
Phyllis enjoyed crafts, sewing and needlepoint, and was an excellent baker who loved to make desserts. She collected snow globes, of which she had many, and was fascinated by covered bridges of which she also had acquired many miniatures. She was fond of trips to the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and her friends there.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (John) Meeks of Albany, Ohio, and Kandy (Randy Toohey) Dunfee of Cambridge; three sons, Charles Dunfee of Fallsburg, Mark (Sandra) Dunfee of Canton, and Todd (Rhonda) Dunfee of Concord, North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Lee of New Rumley; four brothers, Ken (Helen) Strohmeyer of Chicago, Ben (Donna) Strohmeyer of Carrollton, Danny (Judy) Strohmeyer of Pennyslvania, and Floyd Strohmeyer of Scio; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of twenty years, Charles Dunfee, in 1978; an infant son, Douglas Dunfee; a sister, with whom she was very close, Dorothy Sinfield; and three brothers, Lewis, Edward and Ernest Strohmeyer.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 30, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery, New Athens.
