Raymond Clarence Stein

September 24, 1933 — November 22, 2006

Raymond Clarence Stein, 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Dover on September 28, 1933, he was the 5th child of the 17-member family of the late Clarence & Minnie Lang Stein.

Ray was a retired construction worker, having left the R.G. Smith Construction Company after 30 years of hard work and dedicated service.

He was a collector and was especially interested in collecting belt buckles. Ray was also a member of the Renner�(TM)s St. Paul United Church of Christ at Fresno.

Ray honorably served our country and was proud to be in the Army at the same time as his brothers Kenneth and Richard, during the Korean War.

His wife, Elizabeth M. “Libby” Stein, who died July 11, 2003, preceded him in death.

Surviving family members include: a son, Ricky (Kelly) Stein of New Philadelphia; two daughters, Debbie (John) Jackson of Dover, and Robin Covington of Phoenix, AZ; the children�(TM)s mother, Clita, of Canton; five brothers, Wayne (Heidi) Stein of CA, Charles (Jan) Stein of Oregon, Glenn (Pat) Stein of Dover, Gene of New Philadelphia, and James Stein and his companion Minnie of Dover; three sisters, Betty (Walter) Emery of Dover, Twila (Byron) Polen of MI, and Shirley (John) Stillion of New Philadelphia; eight grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 44 nieces and nephews; three wonderful sisters-in-law, Mary Jane, Lou, and Dorothy; five stepchildren; Connie Engstrom of New Philadelphia, Kandie Harris of LaCroffe, VA, Eva Hicks of Brandon, FL, Kenneth Hicks of Tampa, FL, and Steve (Lori) Hicks of Midvale; and his beloved dog Sady.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ray was preceded in death by: five brothers, Kenneth, Richard, Donald, Aderian, and David; a sister, Minnie; sister-in-law, Carolyn; and a stepson Richard.

The New Philadelphia V.F.W. will conduct military graveside rites, and Rev. Sharon Jacobsen will officiate a committal service on Monday, November 27, at 11:00 a.m. in the Renner�(TM)s St. Paul United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may call in the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m. Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register book for Ray by visiting the “obituaries” link on the funeral home�(TM)s website.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the church cemetery fund, Renner�(TM)s Cemetery Fund, PO Box 249, Baltic, 43804.

The arrangements are being handled through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.
