Raymond E. Rothacher, 82, of Dover died Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 2013 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following a 3 year period of declining health.
Born July 10, 1931 in Sugarcreek, Ohio, he was the son of the late Fred "Pete" and Ida "Pearl" Yeager Rothacher. In addition, he was preceded in death by a son, Boyd Rothacher, four brothers, Jerry, Fritz, Sam and Earl Rothacher and three sisters, Hazel Watkins, Sophia Rothacher and Virginia Johnson.
Ray was a retired employee of Kimble Coal & Limestone at Dover.
He attended the Community Baptist Church at Dover. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He had many interests over the years including reading, hunting and collecting arrowheads, and was a "Mr. Fixit." He was also a pilot and enjoyed flying over the years. He was a life member of the Tuscarawas County Historical Society.
Ray will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of 59 years, Betty (Parsons) Rothacher whom he married on Jan. 26, 1954; a son, Bruce M. (Karen Slough) Rothacher of Dover, Beth (David) Beans of Dover and Bev (Dave) Potts of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren Raena (Brandon Warfield) Beans, Darren Beans, Andrew and Ben Potts; a great granddaughter Lydia Warfield; two sisters, Rose Rader of Sugarcreek and Laura Hidey of Baltic; and two brothers Rudy (Sally) Rothacher of New Philadelphia and Larry (Carol) Rothacher of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Ray's life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 beginning at 10:30am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Andy McClung officiating. Following the services, the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Cremation will follow the service and a private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8pm.
