Raymond Eugene Mills

Raymond Eugene Mills, age 86, of Dover, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in Community Hospice Truman House, New Philadelphia, following a brief illness.

Born June 12, 1937, in Jewett, he was a son of the late Walter and Dorinda Masters Mills. Raymond graduated from Jewett High School, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army. Following his service time, he was employed by the Warner & Swasey Co. (later Gradall) in New Philadelphia, from which he retired in 1999. Raymond attended Dover Bible Church. 

In his younger days, Raymond liked racing automobiles at Midvale Speedway, and he enjoyed following NASCAR to the present-day. Additionally, he was a fan of the Cleveland Guardians and Ohio State sports - especially basketball.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Donna R. Smith Mills, whom he married on September 20, 1990; his daughters, Kimberly Volkert of Bolivar, and Wendy (D.J.) Kourie of Dover; his grandchildren, Amber, Brittany, Caitlin, Arica, Tyler and Cortney; his five great-grandchildren; his step-children, Joan Hutchison, and Wayne and Joyce Rentsch; his sisters and brother, Joellen “Joy” Bornhoeft, Edith Jones and Paul “Leonard” Mills; and his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Marjorie Harkins, Louella Howell, Edgar and James Richard Mills.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Saturday, January 6, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.; a service will follow at 12, officiated by Rev. Mark A. Britton. Burial will be in Dover’s Ridgecrest Memory Gardens with military honors. There will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center after the committal.
