Raymond F. Handrich

Raymond F. Handrich, 86, of Dover, Ohio died Friday, March 9, 2001 at Union Hospital following an extended illness.

He retired in 1975, as an employee of the Reeves Steel Company at Dover where he worked for over 41 years. He was also a self employed farmer.

Born February 16, 1915 in Dover, he was the son of the late Frederick William and Etta Dickey Handrich.

Raymond was an 82 yr. Member of the Bisel United Methodist Church at Dover where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 29 years and had previously been a Sunday Schoolteacher, Trustee, and Adult Director of the church. He enjoyed singing and over the years performed duets with June Dessecker. He was a 1932 graduate of Dover High School. He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II aboard the USCG Woodbury and did Convoy duty for 29 months. He was a Life Member of the Dover VFW and member of the Dover Moose Lodge. He loved dancing, traveling and history and was an avid Dover Football fan. He also enjoyed trains.

Ray is survived by his wife Ida Dowell Handrich with whom he would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on Sept. 24.

He is also survived by four children Maj. William F. (Marsha) Handrich of Dover, M/Sgt. Frderick R. Handrich of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Vonnie E. (Allen) Wertz of Bolivar and Ida M. “Rockie” (John) Sours of Pittsburgh, Pa.

10 grandchildrenTodd A. (Beverly) Handrich, Shawn W. (Marissa) Handrich, Erich R. (Tammy) Handrich, Yolanda C. (Troy) Bohnert, Brian A. Wertz, Lt. Raymond F. (Lee) Handrich II, William E. Handrich, Alicia E. Handrich, Benjamin L. Wertz, and Andrew J. Sours. 10 great grandchildren Kasey L. Handrich, Travis A.F. Handrich, Kaitlyn J. Miller, Riley R. Handrich, Chase S. Miller, Dakota R. Handrich, Grant R. Handrich, Maxwell L. Bohnert, Ashley L. Gleaton, and Alexis E. Brown.
One Brother Dale (Margaret) Handrich of Coshocton and two sisters, Wilma (George) Aubihl of Dover and Anna Abel of Bolivar.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Ellen and a brother, George Handrich.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 12 at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Donald L. Watson officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
