Ray K. Tharp Sr, of New Philadelphia, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Union Hospital surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.
Ray formerly owned and operated Centre Supply Company in Midvale and was a retired coalminer having operated Archer Mining Company and Sharon Leasing in New Philadelphia.
Ray was born September 29, 1934 in Hemlock, Ohio, the son of the late Wesley and Nettie (Allen) Tharp and was one of eight children.
He attended the Dover Alliance Church and was a member of the Tusco Rifle Club. He enjoyed shooting trap, hunting, fishing, and sitting on his back porch with family and friends. He was a 1952 graduate of Shawnee High School.
He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart, Glenna Cox Tharp; four children, Mark (wife, Judy) Tharp of Strasburg, Lori (husband, David) Miller of Stonecreek, Ray Jr. (wife, Brenda) Tharp of Dover and Jill (husband, Mike) Cargnel of New Philadelphia; ten grandchildren, Matt (wife, Tiffiny) Tharp, Sara (husband, Paul) Cole, Jeff Miller, Blake Miller and fiance Jenn Schmidt, Ben Miller, Kyle (wife, Tifney) Tharp, Cody Ray Tharp, Tyler Cargnel, Kari Anne Cargnel, and Emily Cargnel; five great grandchildren, A.J. and Grace Tharp, Makenna Cole, Peyton Miller, and Reed Douglas Tharp, three sisters, Fran (husband, Bill) Dunlap, Connie (husband, Robert) Spurgeon, and Kathy (husband, Terry) Jones all of Perry County, two brothers, Mike (wife, Pat) Tharp of Licking County, and William "Billy" (wife, Debra) Tharp of Hocking County.
Ray was preceded in death by two brothers, Wes Jr. and Randy Tharp and a sister, Eileen Tharp.
A celebration of Ray's life will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 10:30am in the Dover Alliance Church with Pastor Richard Rose officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends will be received Tuesday from 4-7pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover and Wednesday at the church from 9:30-10:30am.
