Raymond L. Espenschied, 88, of Dover died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.
Born September 6, 1926 in Mogadore, Ohio he was a son of the late William and Goldie Rummel Espenschied. Ray was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl Espenschied and three sisters, Marie Gano, Mae Smith and Betty Dorsey.
Ray worked as a mechanic for several different companies throughout his career and had also been employed at LTV. He was a hard worker and was talented in the shop, especially with wood working and carving. He proudly served his country during WW II with the US Army and was a member of the Dover VFW. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Senior Citizens. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping with his family and friends at Atwood Lake.
Raymond will be sadly missed by his wife of 67 years, Patricia Penrod Espenschied whom he married on February 27, 1947; son, Tom (Marsha) Espenschied of Dover; daughters, Patti (Ron) Kaser of New Philadelphia, Cathy (Jim) Yard of Louisville; brothers, Butch (Patsy) Espenschied of Tennessee, Robert (Monya) Espenschied of Minerva; sisters, Elsie Kutcher of New Philadelpia, Doris Rowland of Tennessee, Maxine Robinson of Uhrichsville, Wanda Dills of Alabama, Helen Stewart of Tennessee; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 27 at 3:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Deacon Lyn Houze officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Following the committal, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Monday from 1-3 pm.
