Regina Y. "Jeana" Galbraith, age 88, of New Philadelphia (Brightwood), died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 in New Dawn Retirement Community, Dover, following a brief illness.
Born Sept. 2, 1923, in Roswell, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth Amicone Donofrio. Jeana graduated from Midvale High School, and went to work for the Belmont Stamp & Enameling Co., New Philadelphia. Later, she was employed by The Timken Co., Canton. She married Glen M. Galbraith on Jul. 10, 1948, and the couple shared sixty-one years together before Glen's passing on Sept. 13, 2009.
Jeana was a member of Sacred Heart Church, New Philadelphia, and had belonged to St. Paul's Church at Midvale prior to its closing. She also attended Immaculate Conception in Dennison. Jeana loved being a homemaker and worked very hard at keeping her house and surrounding yard in tip-top shape. Among her favorite pastimes were reading, and working crossword puzzles, as well as traveling to the casinos in Las Vegas and West Virginia.
Survivors include her brother, Eugene Donofrio of New Philadelphia, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jeana was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glen; two sisters, with whom she was very close, Florence Simonetti and Delores Schiavone; and a brother, Vincent Donofrio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Dec. 30, at 10:30 a.m., in Sacred Heart Church, New Philadelphia, with Fr. Jeff Coning officiating. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Roswell. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in St. Ambrose Hall of Sacred Heart Church. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia on Thursday, Dec. 29, 5 8 p.m. There will be a Christian wake service Thursday at 7:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
