Rena M. Erickson, 94, a longtime Dover resident died Monday, January 10, 2005 in the New Dawn Health Retirement Center following a brief illness.
She was an elementary schoolteacher for over forty years having retired in 1973 from Manhasset, Long Island, New York and had previously taught in Dover. She had retired from both New York and Ohio.
Born January 15, 1910 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jennie Fritz Erickson.
Rena was a member of the St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ at Dover. She was also a member of the Dover Garden Club, Tuscarawas Order of Eastern Star, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a graduate of Dover High School and Ohio University and received her Masters degree in Education from Columbia University in New York. She enjoyed her family and loved to travel.
In addition to her parents, Rena was preceded in death by a brother, Otis Erickson; two sisters, Selma Petranek and Nancy Doll; one nephew, Skip Erickson and a niece, Gloria Erickson.
Rena is survived by a brother, George (Betty) Erickson of Benton, Kentucky, one nephew and four nieces Linda Erickson Palchick, Gaye Erickson Gavhane, Erick Petranek, Becky Doll Humes and Shelly Doll Wagner.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 2pm in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia with Pastor Mel Humes and Pastor Steve Daniels officiating. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Thursday from noon until 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Public Library, Dover City Schools Education Foundation, or St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover.
