Reuben Keener Sr., 77, of Dover, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 in Oak Point Nursing Home in Baltic surrounded by his family.
Born December 8, 1931 in Dover, he was the son of the late George and Iva Porter Keener.
He graduated from Dover High School in 1950. Shortly after graduation, on August 4, 1950, he married his wife, Rose Leggett Keener.
He retired from Timken Company in Canton, where he worked as a supervisor.
Reuben was an avid Bowler and Golfer and was a huge Yankee fan. He also coached youth baseball for many years. He was a member of the Tuscarawas Masonic Lodge #59.
In addition to his wife, Rose, other survivors include: two sons; Reuben (Ellen) Keener of Dover, and Rick (Donna) Keener of Massillon; his sister, Kathleen Jackson of Dover; three brothers, Merlyn (Doris) Keener of Bolivar, Art (Doris) Keener of Dover, and Joe (Nancy) Keener of Dover; as well as five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his brother; John Keener, two sisters, Ruth DeVore and Dorothy Barker; and his brother-in-law, Robert Jackson.
Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday, March 6, 2009 from 6:00-9:00 pm. A Masonic service will take place at 5:45 pm. In honoring Reuben's wishes, cremation will follow calling hours.
A public graveside service at the Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Dover Burial Park will be held Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 1:30pm. A reception will follow at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
