Rhoda Goudy

Rhoda Goudy, 79, of New Dawn Health Care Center, and a long-time resident of the Roswell area died peacefully, Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in Union Hospital, with family and friends by her side.

Born, Sept. 14, 1929, in Salyersville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Bertie Clemons Collinsworth. Rhoda attended elementary school in Kentucky, and helped her mother cook and care for her father and her many sisters and brothers. The family moved to Ohio in the early 1940's. Rhoda married Wellington C. "Bud" Goudy on Nov. 7, 1953. She was employed at the East Sparta Ceramic Tile Co., until the birth of her daughter, Diana, when she became a full-time mother and homemaker. Rhoda enjoyed fishing and camping with Bud and Diana, and loved to make big family dinners bringing her many relatives together. Additionally, she played a nurturing role in the lives of a niece, Sarah Waldron, and a nephew, Benny Cappillo. Rhoda attended both Roxford United Methodist Church, Dennison, and First Baptist Church, New Philadelphia.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Bud; her daughter, Diana Goudy; a sister, Retha Gopp; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Rhoda was preceded in death by three sisters, Daisy Cappillo, Cynthia Brothers and Chloe Conley; and by eight brothers, Delbert, Sterlin, Estill, Orville, Dorsey, William, Arnold and Henry Clay Collinsworth.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Pastor Rich VanArsdalen of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Roxford Church Cemetery, Dennison. Following the committal, there will be a meal in "The Barn" of First Baptist Church.
