Richard A. "Rick" Hagloch, age 81 of Delaware, Ohio and formerly of Dover passed away Tuesday evening, May 3, 2011 at Grady Memorial Hospital following a 2 month illness.
He was born on June 6, 1929 in Dover to the late Henry C. and Charlotte (Pfeiffer) Hagloch. A graduate of Dover High School in 1947, he served in the US Army for a two year term. He worked as a foreman with Union Camp Chemical Corporation for 13 years, retiring in 1990. Richard moved to Delaware in 1992 and was a former member of the St. Paul's Ruslin Hills Church of Christ in Dover. Along with his wife, he also served as a Meals on Wheels driver in Delaware.
A man of "lists", he enjoyed reading books of history and gardening or as he expressed "scratching in the dirt". Rick also authored the book "Growing Up in Dover" about the place he always called home. He will be remembered for his love of family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Norma (Ickes), daughter, Janet (Tim) Cain of Ashley; sons, Paul and Mark Hagloch of Dover, Chuck (Tammy) Smitley of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandsons, Louey and Dominick Hagloch of New Philadelphia, Kyle and Nathan Cain of Ashley, great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Connor, and Cam; brother Clifford (Norma) Hagloch of Dover.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy along with five brothers and six sisters.
Friends may call from 4-7pm on Friday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware and from 11:00-2:00pm on Saturday at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 803 N. Wooster Ave. Dover. Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday at 2:15pm in the Dover Burial Park in Dover.
