Richard A Johnson

Richard A. “Rich” Johnson, 56, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, following an apparent heart attack.

Born Oct. 7, 1950, in Dennison, he was a son of Virginia Rothacher Johnson of New Philadelphia, and the late Harry Johnson. Rich attended Dover schools and was employed by the Pit Stop Car Wash in Dover for almost twenty years. He presently worked for the Goodwill Store in New Philadelphia.

Rich had a big heart and always a big smile. When not working, he enjoyed going to flea markets and festivals. He liked to go square dancing and skating, and was quite good at both. Additionally, Rich liked to go fishing and relax.

Besides his mother, survivors include his friend and companion, Suzanne Murphy; a daughter and a son, Melody (husband, William) Powell and Timothy Johnson, both of Sebring, FL; a granddaughter and grandson, Makayla Powell and Dallas Johnson; four sisters, Shirley (husband, John) Sullivan of Wainwright, Bonnie (husband, Bryant) Patten of Kalispell, MT, Betty (husband, Ben) Keffer of Alachua, FL, and Suzie Waters of Lake City, FL; four brothers, Harry (wife, Linda) Johnson, Jr. of Conway, SC, Louie (wife, Suzie) Johnson of Ocala, FL, Howard (wife, Helen) Johnson of New Philadelphia, and Terry (wife, Jeannie) Johnson of Port Orange, FL; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Rich was preceded in death by nieces, Tammy Johnson and Kathy Meese.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 30, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Ed Scaglione of the Dover Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
