Richard "Dick" Hollinger

September 6, 1931 — December 3, 2018

Richard G. “Dick” Hollinger, 87, a lifelong resident of Dover died Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at the Inn at Northwood following a period of declining health.

Dick retired in 1986 from the Timken Company in New Philadelphia where he was a Precision Sound tester. He also served as Vice President of Warther Cutlery and Museum for over 50 years.

Born Sept. 6, 1931 in Dover, he was the son of the late Paul and Martha (Richard) Hollinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Margaret (Wise) Hollinger who died Jan. 11, 2000 and his second wife, Shirley Perry Hollinger who preceded him on June 6, 2017 along with a sister, Ellen Hollinger.

Dick’s blindness at an early age never stopped him from his many accomplishments over the years. He was a member and past president of the Dover Lions Club, life member of the New Phila Elks and former Dover Elks, former Vice President of the Tuscarawas Valley Organization of the Blind, member of the Ohio Gun Collectors Assn., and Life member of the NRA. Following the accident that took his eyesight, Dick was circumstantially unable to complete his high school education. His late friend, Don Peters encouraged Dick to complete his GED. He enjoyed being a machinist and was also a collector of antique firearms, and amassed one of the largest collections of Warther Knives and arrowheads. His son Paul had the greatest admiration for his dad and the two of them were not only father and son but were the very best buddies two people could ever have.

He will be sadly missed by his only son, Paul of Upper Arlington, Ohio. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Mark (Cindi) Perry, Cheryl (Ricky) Brown, Matt (Sheila) Perry and Sue (Mike) Stokey.
