Richard E. Conklin, Sr., 74, of New Philadelphia died suddenly on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Union Hospital.
He retired from Home Engineering in Dover after 30 years of service, and then was a partner with Kiser Home Improvement in New Philadelphia.
Born January 13, 1931 in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania he was a son of the late Francis and Julia Lemley Conklin.
He was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints and was an Army veteran. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid reader.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Turner Conklin who died on April 16, 1992 and is survived by his second wife Mary Murphy Conklin with whom he would have celebrated 11 years of marriage on June 3, 2005.
He is also survived by two sons, Richard E. Conklin, Jr. of Mansfield, Ohio and Edward T. (Heidi) Conklin of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Susan (Dale) Hamilton of Uhrichsville; two sisters, Nellie Conklin and Rachel Marie Ritter both of Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Beth Ann Conklin.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia with Glenn Vogel and Nick Sponseller officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the burial a reception will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
