Richard E. "Dick" Edwards, 75, of Dover passed away on June 25th, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio.
Dick was born in Dover on October 29th, 1947 to John and Dorothy Plotts Edwards.
After graduating from Dover High School with the class of 1966, Dick served our country as a proud veteran in the United States Marine Corps. During his time serving the nation, he was awarded a Rifle Marksman Badge along with a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Ribbon. He received a bronze star, a bronze leaf cluster, and a gold Valor pin. We will forever be indebted to him for his courageous service.
Dick was a member of and supporter of the First United Methodist Church in Dover. He cherished giving back to his community and generously supported several local charities including disabled veterans. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia VFW and the Elks. Dick's love for his family was immeasurable; it was his greatest passion in life. He enjoyed spending time with them more than anything else.
Dick worked at Reeves Steel, Edwards Sales and Service where he held the position of Parts Manager. He later retired in 2009 from Dover Brake. He remained extremely dedicated throughout his career with an unshakable work ethic that will never be forgotten.
In his free time, Dick loved golfing which he mastered over the years.
Dick's endless love will continue to live on through Sandy; their sons; Jonathan and Katie Edwards of Avon and Joshua Edwards of Dover; his grandson; Jonathan Anthony Edwards "Jae," his sisters, Carole Cummings of Grove City, and Susie Hunt of Dover; his brother, Michael and Mary Beth Edwards of Dover; his nieces and nephews, Kimberly Wood, Rebecca Cummings, Shannon & Kenny Miller, Lynn and Wes Gilland, Marcus Edwards, Anne & Matt Burton, Paul & Kelsey Edwards, Jessica Hunt, Jaqueline Hunt, Jeremy Hunt, Kevin and JJ Renner, and Christopher Renner. He also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy (Plotts) Edwards; his father and mother-in-law, Mike and Bea Carmola; sister, Nancy Renner; brother-in-law, Gary Hunt; and his niece, Jennifer Hunt.
Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 am. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Wesley George officiating. Following the service, the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors at the funeral home.
