Richard L. "Dick" Farley, 77, of Dover, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 19, 1946, to the late William and Grace Garvey Farley. Dick was also preceded in death by his sister Mary Ellen Sheehan; and brother, William Farley.
After graduating from Cathedral High School in Indiana in 1964, Dick went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton in 1968. This educational foundation helped shape his successful career trajectory that spanned several industries. Dick embarked upon his professional journey at Montgomery Ward before assuming the role of Utilities Director for the City of Dover. After years of dedication and hard work, he retired in 2012 from Discount Drug Mart in Dover.
While his career brought fulfillment and purpose to Dick's life, it was his ardent love for sports that truly animated him outside of work. He took immense joy in cheering on his children and grandchildren during their school and sporting activities. A passionate fan of the Dayton Flyers basketball team and Notre Dame football squad, Dick's enthusiasm for sports knew no bounds. Dick was also an Army veteran of the Vietnam War—an experience that instilled within him a profound sense of duty and commitment to his country. A member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover, Dick found solace and support through his faith community throughout his life.
Throughout their 48 years of marriage, Dick shared a deep bond with his beloved wife Sandra Fogle Farley. Together they built a foundation of love and trust that served as an example for all who had the privilege to witness their union. Dick leaves behind two sons: Jason (Molly) Farley of Cambridge and Nathan Farley of Cleveland. He also had the immense joy of being a grandfather to Cassidy and Andrew Farley.
